Spotlighting Britanee

Share
Hey all, Jewelle here!  Did you know I have one of the best jobs in the world?  I get to interview the Stolen Moments creative team members in order to spotlight them.  It is always so fun getting to know these wonderful ladies.  I am super excited today to be spotlighting a new member of the Stolen Moments team so you can get to know here a little bit better too!  Sit back and enjoy getting to know....

My name is Britanee Walker (britaneejean throughout digiland). I'm a 26 yr old SAHM to 2 little girls who are the reasons behind why I scrapbook.  I've been scrapbooking since I was a little girl.  I discovered digital scrapbooking in January 2009Digi-scrapping is my relaxation, therapy & creative outlet.

How long have you been scrapping?  Have you ever paper scrapped?  When did you make the switch to digi and why?

I 've been paper scrapping since I was a little kid. My mom's an excellent paper scrapper but I never acquired that skill. I discovered "digi scrapping" with a program in 2006 but only did it off and on. A friend then convinced me to try PSE, which I did in January 2009. I've never looked back. I LOVE the fact that there's no mess for my kids to get into, I'm not wasting supplies and ctrl+z (I'm BFF's with that one lol).

What do you feel is your strongest scrapping skill?  Your weakest?

I honestly don't know. I have to use a template for every page. It's rare for me not to since I don't have as much time as I wish I did. I do try to go beyond the template though and make it my own. I love to journal. I know many people hate journaling but that's one of my favorite parts. I always over journal lol!

What advice would you give someone just starting out digi-scrapping?

Don't give up! I help out at a friend's event ever other month and that's the main thing I keep saying when trying to teach someone. Don't give up and keep practicing! It's taken me 3-4 years to get where I am today. I think a lot of people think it's all going to click into place immediately and it doesn't.

Describe your scrapping "system"... What program do you use?  Where do you start first - photos, papers, elements, journaling?  Do you always have something in mind when you start, or do you let your creativity guide you?  How long does it take you to complete a layout?

I currently use PS CS5. My "system" is different if I'm scrapping for my designers or for myself but no matter what, I place my pictures last. I have them in mind though while scrapping. I pick my template out at the beginning then go from the bottom/back to the top/front. Papers are placed first, then elements, title, picture, & journaling. Depending on mojo (and kids behaviors lol), I can complete a LO anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours. My weekly instagram layouts take me about 3 hours.

On average, how much time do you spend scrapping each week?

I aim for at least 1 LO/day. It doesn't always work out, but that's about 7-10 hours/week.

Describe your perfect scrapping environment - coffee? soda?  music?  snacks?

I love to have an ice cold water or fountain diet coke with me. I love snacks but am trying to be better about having those around my laptop. Music distracts me, though I like having a show on in the background. It's usually something my husband's watching.

What's your favorite thing to do BESIDES scrapping?

Playing with my kids and taking pictures. We've been packing as much fun as possible into our summer and the biggest thing we've done is hang out at the pool every day. We all love it. I also LOVE to read. My kindle paperwhite is my constant companion.

What is one thing you would love to do, just so you could scrap it?

Disneyland! or camping. I actually hate to camp but the camping kits are so cute to me that I might just do it so I can use those cute kits. Disneyland is a given though! We've never been as a family and my kids are dieing to go.

Who inspires you in the scrapping community?  Any person or site in particular that you look to for inspiration?

I love Pinterest. it's become my go-to for inspiration. iI have many friends in the community who inspire me all the time. I love their styles. I can't name them all or we'd run out of room lol!

If you could have Amber create a kit just for you, what colors, theme, etc would it be and why?

Oh man...a fun summer kit! That's only because it's summer right now though. Maybe she wants to make a camping kit? (wink, wink) I LOVE all girly kits so another one like her Happily Ever Afters kit/bundle would be awesome! Also, any daily moments kit would be great. I can't have enough of those.

What kind of scrapper do you consider yourself?  And why were you drawn to that aesthetic?  {ie cluster, minimalist, artistic journaler, etc}

I'm definitely a clusterer. I love to cluster and I think that's because I can and it doesn't weigh down the actual page. I couldn't ever do that on a paper layout.  I love to use lots of paper too. I would love to art journal but I haven't had much time to give it a go. Depending on the feel of the layout, I also like minimalist pages.

Now lets check out a few of Britanee's layouts!

Oldest Layout
Baby shower...one of the first ones I did. Scary! This was before I knew about drop shadows.  I made this back in the VERY beginning and I can't believe I'm showing it to you!

Favorite layouts
My favorites lately are my weekly "project life" layouts for my instagram pictures! They take a while for me to do but I love every single page.

Most Recent Layout
Hugs. I LOVE capturing my girls relationship with each other. I always place my picture on my page after it's 90% done (right before journaling, title & finish shadow work). I had just taken this picture this weekend & thought it'd be perfect.

Stolen Moments Layout
Mother's day. I've loved this kit since it was first released. I finally got it but then couldn't find time to play. I scrapped this page during a convention and the only regret I have is that I didn't use it sooner. This was a different way for me to scrap my mother's day that year.

I could spend all day looking at Britanee's amazing layouts.  To see more of her inspiring work, be sure and pop over to her GALLERY and stay a while!

Spotlighting Marlen

Share
One thing I love about being on a CT is that I get to "meet" people from all over the world.  In a way I get to see the world through them.  There are a few members on the Stolen Moments team who are not from the US.  Today I get to introduce you to one of these members.  Sit back and enjoy a different part of the world as I introduce you to...

My name is Marlen, I`m 34 year old and live with my partner and our 2 sons (7 and 1 1/2) in Berlin, Germany. I just started working again after my parental leave, I`m working as sales assistant. Besides scrapping I LOVE to read, music (I`m always singing around even though I`m not the best singer). I also LOVE meeting my girls... it`s just not so easy to find enough time to meet as often as we`d like to. I also love movies and tv-series like Grey`s Anatomy, Vampire Diaries, and Desperate Housewives.

  1. How long have you been scrapping? Have you ever paper scrapped? When did you make the switch to digi and why?  I started digi-scrapping in 2006. I saw a few layouts around on the web and I liked what I saw, so I just tried it by myself  :) I never was a paper scrapper.  I think I´m not patient enough to do this.
  2. What do you feel is your strongest scrapping skill? Your weakest?  I think I`m good in a clean and straight scrapping-style. My blendings also are not too bad.  I`m not so good in making FULL pages.  I always LOVE to look at pages that are full of elements, pictures, layerings and clusterings - but I never made it to perfection on my own pages.
  3. What advice would you give someone just starting out digi-scrapping?  Look for some inspiration and find out what you like, then just start trying.  Learning by doing, practice is everything.
  4. Describe your scrapping "system"... What program do you use? Where do you start first - photos, papers, elements, journaling? Do you always have something in mind when you start, or do you let your creativity guide you? How long does it take you to complete a layout?  The program I use is a very simple one, it`s called PhotoImpact. Most of the time I have pictures on my mind and a basic idea how my page should look like. Since I work on photobooks it`s easier for me to scrap.I just want to tell the story of my pictures, saving the memories. For my "work" as CTM I see a kit and think about pictures I may have, most of the time I find something in my files and if not I think about a photoless-page or I do a RAK for people I like. I also love to browse to galleries and let all the talented scrappers out there inspire me. To complete a layout I need 2-3 hours, sometimes more. Actually I just scrap one layout a day, when I`m ready I look at it, think about how I like it and change something here and there.
  5. On average, how much time do you spend scrapping each week?  That`s very different.  I it`s a matter how often I have to work and how my mojo flows. But I try to scrap a lot, I want to finish my photobooks and there`s still a lot of work to do :)
  6. Describe your perfect scrapping - coffee? soda? music? snacks? I love to have coffee on my desk and listenig to radio in the background, and the web. No snacks.
  7. What's your favorite thing to do BESIDES scrapping? Spending time with my family is the most important thing.  Making pictures, reading books, music, meeting friends.
  8. Who inspires you in the scrapping community? Any person or site in particular that you look to for inspiration?  There are a few scrappers I like, but actually I just LOVE browsing through galleries and letting them inspire me. I love the galleries at DST, SM & TLP to do that - so much creative stuff to find there, wow!
  9. If you could have Amber create a kit just for you, what colors, theme, etc would it be and why?  Today I`d say a summer kit, with bright colors, FUN and colorful elements, just to feel the summer warmth. I also had ideas for a darker vampire-themed kit, since I love Twilight and Vampire Diaries.

 Oldest Layout
I did this layout for a dear web-friend, it`s her little dd on the picture.

 Favorite Layouts
This page is about my two sons and their newest nicknames.

This is the story of doing a little at home-excavation to have our own dino-skeleton.

Most Recent Layout
These are two pictures of my grandparents. Unfortunately I don`t know much about it, just that they were in Mongolia.

Stolen Moment's Layout
This is about a date with the doctor.

I could spend all day looking at Marlen's wonderful layouts.  To see more of her amazing work, be sure and pop over to her GALLERY and stay a spell!

Spotlighting Debby

Share
I'm coming to you a little late tonight with our latest CT spotlight.  Grab you something to drink to stay up a little longer, because believe me this CT member is truly inspirational.  You will definitely want to be checking her gallery out.  Let me introduce you to...

Debby
{aka debbysrose}

I have lived in Southern California my entire life.  I have been married to my husband George for 36 years. I am a registered nurse(37 years!) and currently work at a large community hospital as a nurse manager.  I have 2 adult daughters, Kim and Kelly, who have blessed us with 3 wonderful grandsons.

  1. How long have you been scrapping?  Have you ever paper scrapped?  When did you make the switch to digi and why? I have been digi-scrapping for just under 2 years now. I was never a paper scrapper, I tried but just did not have the patience or time. I just could not deal with not having just the right element or paper to put on a page to help tell the story of the photos. My oldest daughter, Kim had made the switch from paper which she was awesome at to digital and she gave me a lesson and I created the Instant Granddaughters layout (see below) as part of that lesson!
  2. What do you feel is your strongest scrapping skill?  Your weakest?  My strongest skills are titles, clustering, and kit mixing. My weakest is most definitely page design. I really only love 1/2 of the ones I have done without templates. Next would be journaling especially non-happy stuff.
  3. What advice would you give someone just starting out digi-scrapping? Find a digi home that feels right to you and get involved then just start scrapping. I really only learned by doing and I love to keep learning new techniques and skills.
  4. Describe your scrapping "system"... What program do you use?  Where do you start first - photos, papers, elements, journaling?  Do you always have something in mind when you start, or do you let your creativity guide you?  How long does it take you to complete a layout?  I am using PSE8 now but would love to make the leap to Photoshop to stretch my skills. I start a layout with photos. If I have a kit I need to scrap with, I have to find photos that will be complemented by that kit.  Color and theme drive that the most. As I said above, I most often scrap with templates, so next is to find one that works with the photos and/or kit. I usually have a vision of what I want the layout to look like as I start it.
  5. On average, how much time do you spend scrapping each week?  I usually do 1-3 layouts a week depending on what my work week is like. I have worked hours on one layout if it does not get near that starting vision. I hate giving up and will try several kits and page designs to make a layout work. I am most definitely NOT a speed scrapper!
  6. Describe your perfect scrapping environment - coffee? soda?  music?  snacks?  I scrap sitting on my comfy couch with my laptop in my lap. A cup of coffee or glass of water is usually next to me and my husband is usually watching TV.
  7. What's your favorite thing to do BESIDES scrapping? Spending time with my family is my most favorite thing to do.  I love to sew, garden, and read as well.
  8. What is one thing you would love to do, just so you could scrap it? I want to go on another cruise. We have been on one, to Alaska and those were some of my first layouts and the only album I have scrapped. I want to go on another one so I can scrap it!
  9. Who inspires you in the scrapping community?  Any person or site in particular that you look to for inspiration? Oh that is easy, my daughter Kim is my biggest inspiration. I did a layout about my digiscrap daughter! I love her layouts, she has so much feeling and emotion in them and I love her page designs.  Another scrapper that inspires me a lot is Andrea Newby of Little Green Frog Designs. Her page designs are soooo creative.
  10. If you could have Amber create a kit just for you, what colors, theme, etc would it be and why?  I finally got brave and asked Amber to create a kit. Our family is going to the Oregon coast for vacation in a few weeks and I asked her to create a beachy, vintage, eclectic kit that I can use to scrap our vacation photos with. I love Amber's vintage, artsy style and colors she uses in her kits so I cannot wait to see what she comes up with!
 First Layout
Scrapping these photos so I could hang them up together was the reason I wanted to learn how to scrap!  These are our 3 step-granddaughters at Kim's wedding. Took me 2 years to scrap this page!

Favorite Layouts
This layout was my first attempt at page design as I "learned" to scrap using templates.  I did use a build your own template starter but the page design is my own. I have the best sons-in-law in the world, so I was really happy how this turned out.

A whole bunch of favorites in this layout starting with my 2 adorable grandsons, Aaron and Cameron. These are photos from 3 trips to Disneyland and California Adventure during spring break 2011, a most favorite destination for our family. I also love full page blocked designs and this one is my favorite of all those ones I have done.

Most Recent Layout
We live just a few miles from our youngest daughter and her family, so everyday moments of our grandson Cameron have been the subject matter of a LOT of my layouts. Now with his baby brother, Carter, I will have lots more photos to scrap.  I love playing around with photo treatments and liked how the desaturated colors looked with the kit and the made it look like a rainy day.

Stolen Moments Layout
I love Amber's retired kit, Making Me Smile. This was a cell phone photo taken by my son-in-law in front of Sleeping Beauty's castle at Disneyland.  I had shied away from using cell phone photos but could not resist this candid shot of my grandson and me.

Debby's layouts are fantastic, don't you think?!  I'm always browsing her gallery to see her newest layouts.  To see more of Debby's inspiring work be sure to check out her GALLERY!

Spotlighting Cara

Whew!  Did you all make it through iNSD?  Did you pick up some great products to scrap with?  I'm sure it was fun filled weekend for all.  I know that after I've bought a bunch of new kits I always need some inspiration to use them.  What better way to get inspiration than to look at a gallery of an amazing scrapper?  Well, how about I introduce you to just one of those scrappers?  Please meet...

Cara
{aka colson}

I began digi-scrapping in July 2009 and I instantly loved it; where has this been all my life?! I never was a paper scrapper, but was pretty handy around a computer. It helps that I have a fun muse (and constant source of photos) – my now 4 ½ year old son.  I’ve just grudgingly entered “the 40s,” I’m married and have my son, a 115-pound lap dog - Raven, and Henry Cat.  For my day job(s), I am an insurance agent part-time and also work for my husband in his business as well.  I wear LOTS of hats.  It’s a wonder I have time to scrap!

  1. How long have you been scrapping?  Have you ever paper scrapped?  When did you make the switch to digi and why?  Been digi-scrapping since July 2009. My friend Maria convinced me to try it and I was instantly hooked!
  2. What do you feel is your strongest scrapping skill? Blends Your weakest?  Combining kits
  3. What advice would you give someone just starting out digi-scrapping?  If you don’t know your scrapping program very well, get familiar with it! There are plenty of places in the digi-scrapping world to get tips and hints.  For example, do some challenges in the forum – it’ll help you learn new skills! And if you want to try something that someone else did in their LO, ask them! Fellow digi-scrappers are helpful (and will be honored that you asked!).
  4. Describe your scrapping "system"... What program do you use?  Where do you start first - photos, papers, elements, journaling?  Do you always have something in mind when you start, or do you let your creativity guide you?  How long does it take you to complete a layout?  HA! I wish I had a formula.  Usually I start with photos, then find a kit and maybe a template pack that I want to use. Journaling is SUPER important to me, so I always make sure I leave plenty of space for it. I don’t always have something in mind – if I did I think the finished product would look a lot different than what I envision which is why I don’t like to limit myself at the beginning.  It takes me several hours to complete a LO (even if I use a template) because I’m soooo picky!
  5. On average, how much time do you spend scrapping each week?  Probably 6-8 hours, but I wish it was more.
  6. Describe your perfect scrapping environment - coffee? soda?  music?  snacks?  Okay, my perfect scrapping environment is something I still strive for: no hubby or child to interrupt, a great action/comedy movie on TV, a cold Pepsi One over ice and some white cheddar popcorn.  Wow... that’s pretty specific, huh?  LOL!
  7. What's your favorite thing to do BESIDES scrapping?  Quilting and fabric dyeing.
  8. What is one thing you would love to do, just so you could scrap it?  Go to Japan and be a Samurai for a day.
  9. Who inspires you in the scrapping community?  Any person or site in particular that you look to for inspiration?  Oh my… that’s such a hard one! I don’t think there is any ONE person that inspires me, but I love to scroll through the store and/or the gallery and see if anything calls to me.  The talent that’s out in digi-land truly is inspiring!
  10. If you could have Amber create a kit just for you, what colors, theme, etc would it be and why?  I love every kit that Amber makes – they’re all in my go-to stash.  I think something that might be missing for me is a good Amber-ized Zoo kit.  I’ve got a few cutesy, bold cartoon kits, but I’d like one with muted colors and Amber-style elements.
 First Layout
This was my first layout!  As I look back, it’s not horrible, but I probably will revisit it soon to use the skills I’ve acquired since then.  I had made homemade play-doh and chronicled it.

Favorite Layouts
This was the night before our big Day out with Thomas in Connersville, IN.  We spent the night before in that town since it was several hours from home and we found this park to play in. This LO is one of my faves b/c I tweaked the color of the photos slightly to blend with the kit.

This one about the golf cart is one of my faves because it makes me laugh every time I look at it! I am transported back to the lake and how serious you are about the golf cart.

Most Recent Layout
This is a remake of an older layout.  This was my son’s gift from my in-laws for his 2nd birthday.

Stolen Moments Layout
This was a fun LO to do – I made it ‘a week in the life of Andrew’ and I will treasure this one forever.  I’ve discovered that it’s the snippets of real life that will mean the most someday.

Cara is seriously inspiring don't you think?  To view more of her layouts please check out her GALLERY!

Spotlighting Patti

Jewelle here with another CT spotlight for you!  I was excited to interview this CT member since I haven't known her for long.  Enjoy getting to know...

I'm Patti McCarthy.  I live in Alberta, Canada with my two boys, Joshua and Jared.  We have two purebred Labrador Retrievers, Rowan and Bentley. I'm a preschool teacher by day and love to scrapbook, read and take photos.  I'm a homebody and am content to just hang around the house and be comfy in my pj's watching some of my favourite TV shows.  I am a crack berry addict and take my phone with me everywhere.  My favourite sayings are SERIOUSLY and WHATEVER!  My favourite number is 7 and letter of course is J!  I dislike country music, it bores me and puts me to sleep. LOL!

  1. How long have you been scrapping? I have been scrapbooking for about 12 years. Have you ever paper scrapped? Yes. When did you make the switch to digi and why? I’ve been digi scappin’ since 2009.  I hated the mess and cost of paper scrapping.  I love the close knit connection I have made in the digi world and will never go back.
  2. What do you feel is your strongest scrapping skill? Your weakest? My strongest scrapping skill is the ability to use multiple kits on a page by various designers.  Layering and elements are my passions  My weakness, I would have to say, is "fantasy style pages" and extractions.  I don’t work with them enough, I should to strengthen my skills in this area.
  3. What advice would you give someone just starting out digi-scrapping?   Don’t compare yourself to others.  If you are passionate, create.  Your skills will come with practice
  4. Describe your scrapping "system"... What program do you use? PSE 10 Where do you start first - photos, papers, elements, journaling? Usually I start with the kit/papers, elements and go from there building my page. Do you always have something in mind when you start, or do you let your creativity guide you? I usually have some sort of vision when I start out of what I want my page to look like or what I want to say in my journaling or messaging to my children.   How long does it take you to complete a layout? 1 to 2 hours.
  5. On average, how much time do you spend scrapping each week? 15 plus hours on average.
  6. Describe your perfect scrapping environment - coffee? soda? music? snacks? Cold Pop, chips, pretzels, licorice or chocolate!
  7. What's your favorite thing to do BESIDES scrapping? Reading, I love to read.
  8. What is one thing you would love to do, just so you could scrap it? Go white water rafting.
  9. Who inspires you in the scrapping community?  Karla Dudley. She is the sweetest ever and her designs are amazing. I love how she just puts everything together it is looks amazing every time.  Any person or site in particular that you look to for inspiration? As I CT for several amazing designers, and a couple site CT’s, I’m pleading the Fifth on this one..lol!!
  10. If you could have Amber create a kit just for you, what colors, theme, etc would it be and why? Grungy, Teen/Tween Boy kit – with lots of numbers, metals, grids, tags, paint!

Love this kit by Jenn Barrette and SMD!  I was so inspired creating with it. Just One of the Boys is one of my all time favourite kits.  IMO, there isn’t enough cool functional boy kits with elements and colours that can be used over and over again.

These two are what makes my life worth living.  So many people choose books a garden to be their sanctuary.  My sanctuary and what keeps me grounded and at peace with life and myself is my children.

Isn't Patti's work amazing?!  I love her whitespace and clustering.  She rocks at both concepts! To see more of Patti's inspiring work be sure to check out her BLOG and her GALLERY!

Spotlighting Tanya

Share
Hey all, Jewelle here again with a CTM spotlight!  This lady has been creating amazing layouts for Amber for over a year now, and I thought it is high time to spotlight her!  Let's learn more about...

 Tanya
{aka tanyariley}

I'm a single mom of a 10 year old darling daughter. I am going to college full-time to become a clinical psychologist to help children and families of children with disabilities. I school my daughter at home through a charter program. She has autism spectrum disorder and is high functioning so this has made a huge impact on our lives. I love art and scrapbooking is most definitely an art.

  1. How long have you been scrapping?  Have you ever paper scrapped?  When did you make the switch to digi and why? I have been digital scrapbooking since 2003. I've paper scrapped for about 5 years before that and tried to since a few times only to realize again it's not for me. I switched because I found that digi fit my vision for what my pages should look like in my mind.
  2. What do you feel is your strongest scrapping skill?  Your weakest? My strongest scrapping skill is my coordination of colors and elements. My weakest would probably be minimalistic style layouts. I love them but can't seem to do it!
  3. What advice would you give someone just starting out digi-scrapping? Take your time learning as you go. Don't worry if you don't love your first layouts. What's amazing about digi is that you can always do it again and, like dieting, you can see your progress as you go!
  4. Describe your scrapping "system"... What program do you use?  Where do you start first - photos, papers, elements, journaling?  Do you always have something in mind when you start, or do you let your creativity guide you?  How long does it take you to complete a layout? I use PSCS5 on a 27" iMac. I use iPhoto to organize my photos and picasa to organize my elements. I mostly organize in the folders on my system, but if I need to quickly find something visually I open up Picasa. I can start with a photo, with a design, with a template, whatever! I just like to flow with whatever feels right.
  5. On average, how much time do you spend scrapping each week? Not as much as I'd like. Lately, 3 hours is my current average, it used to be at least 20.
  6. Describe your perfect scrapping environment - coffee? soda?  music?  snacks? My perfect scrapping environment is a show on Hulu or Netflix in a small window and some free time! I don't usually like to munch while I work on my layouts because I get focused and the food gets stale!
  7. What's your favorite thing to do BESIDES scrapping? I love to read. If I wasn't busy with school I'd be reading what I want.
  8. What is one thing you would love to do, just so you could scrap it? I'd love to go on an exotic vacation, just for the pictures and the theme album!
  9. Who inspires you in the scrapping community?  Any person or site in particular that you look to for inspiration? I'd have to say the people that inspire me vary from well known to little known. I love Ali Edwards and Cathy Zielske, of course, but I also love layouts by Mi Monteiro and Mumkaa. I love to see the paper layouts out there at 2peas and the many scrapbooking blogs for inspiration too! I may not always translate it literally though.
  10. If you could have Amber create a kit just for you, what colors, theme, etc would it be and why? My kit would be Tiffany blue with a slightly faded lime green, black, white, soft yellow a bit more butter than lemon, and warm grey. I just love all those colors and am drawn to them in photos and products. I have no idea what the theme would be. Maybe transitions in life?
Oldest Layout
This was when I first started to digiscrap and was exploring with many techniques. I used patterns, text, and color to create a blend with the black and white photo of my kiddo in the yard playing in the water.

Favorite Layout
This layout really describes who I am and what I have in my head day to day, except the beads...

Most Recent Layout
I love Amber's products because they are so versatile. This kit was meant for winter, but the soft pretty colors really made me want to use a recent self portrait that I was proud of.

Amazing layouts right?!  To see more of Tanya's work be sure and stop by her GALLERY
